I doubt Robert Marasco intended for my next point, but I felt somewhat of a feminist theme regarding Marian's decisions throughout the novel. It was very interesting that some of the key issues causing the family to seek refuge away from the city are very prevalent today (high prices, overcrowding, etc).

  • What are Roz, Brother, and Walker? They sort of reminded me of the ghouls in Peter Straub's Ghost Story.
  • We eventually find that Marian starts eating it, but early on, is mother actually eating anything/leaving her "room" or has it always been Marian (and she just doesn't realize she's consciously doing it until later in the book)?
